Dear Parents,

It sure is hard to believe that we have already reached a quarter of the way through the school year. Where is the time going? With the holiday season coming, it also means that we are approaching several Hough at Night events. First, next Tuesday we have Beans and Bragging at 5:00 pm. Whether you would like to enter the chili contest or would just like to sample all the different variety of chili, you will not want to miss this! The classrooms at Hough will also be showing off their talents. On December 8th at 5:00 pm, we will have our annual Father Christmas event. Pictures with Santa, holiday shopping, refreshments, games, gift wrapping, are just some of the reasons to participate in this event.

I want to thank all of you for attending the Veterans Day Assembly this week. A special thanks to our Veterans in our community who attended. Thank you for your service to our country. Being a Veteran myself, I have attended many Veterans Day assemblies. This one will go down as one of my favorites. I want to thank the leadership team for doing such a super job planning, greeting the visitors and of course speaking in front of hundreds of people. They did a super job! I also want to thank Mrs. Mowery and the PTSA for their leadership in putting this all together.

Many of you knew Barbara Hammond and the dedicated work she put into our community for many years. If you knew Barbara , you knew of the great impact she had on this community and our Hough students while serving on the Hough Foundation and Family-Community Resource Center. As you may know, last week, Barbara passed away after her long battle of cancer. Please join us on December 10th at 6:30 at Hough Elementary in honoring, remembering, and celebrating Barbara and her accomplishments.

The November character trait is respect. For this month, each week, we are recognizing the students or staff members that demonstrate respect. We do this by announcing how they went “above and beyond” over the intercom in the morning or by posting it on the “Radiating Respect” bulletin board in the hallway. I would like to recognize a few here in the newsletter: A huge thank you to the Smith family (Ray, Jennifer, Shawn, Bridget and Quinn) for providing the fluorescent yellow gloves for the Safety Patrol students. This will help keep them safe and warm this winter. Also, a special thanks to Jennifer for shoveling leaves from the street and sidewalk this week in front of the school. This is what we call showing respect for our school and community.

Have a super weekend,

Stephen Vance
