Escola de Samba is a Brazilian-style drum group that is spearheaded by Steven Schob and sponsored by the Hough Foundation. Available to 4th and 5th grade students, the group meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The Glee Choral group is an after-school music program that is sponsored by the Hough Foundation and directed by Dr. Anson Service. Glee, which combines music and movement with drama, meets each Monday and Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Each fall, all fourth- and fifth-graders are involved in a job fair. There are many jobs around the school for which students apply, including safety patrol, teacher assistants, office aides and cafeteria helpers, just to name a few. Students are selected and have the opportunity to learn job skills, responsibility and citizenship throughout the year.
Hough fifth-graders can apply for the student leadership team. The team of motivated girls and boys is responsible for daily school announcements and school spirit activities. The team, which meets daily at lunch, rotates three times each year to give more students an opportunity to serve their school community.
Athletics are a fun way for students to learn sportsmanship and get exercise. Girls and boys in fourth and fifth grades can participate in volleyball, basketball and track at Hough.
Hough at Nights are fun activities throughout the year for Hough students and families. They consist of a Monster Mash Bash in October, a Chili Cook-off contest in November, a Bingo Night in January, a STEM Carnival in April and a talent show to end the year (just to name a few)!
