Dear Parents of 2nd-5th grade,
As the beginning of the 17/18 school year approaches, many of you are already starting to schedule your shopping days to purchase school supplies. Your 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th grade student will be in an AVID classroom this year. AVID stands for Advanced Via Individual Determination and we will be talking much more about what this means throughout the school year. For now, think of AVID is preparing our students to be college and career ready by proving rigor through Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading strategies. There are specific notebooks and loose leaf paper that your child will be needing, which we will be providing. So you can scratch off the spiral notebooks, loose leaf paper and pocket folders from your list. For 3rd, 4th and 5th grade, please feel free to purchase a stylus and earbuds for your child. Not mandatory items, but they might come in handy throughout the year.
